I am a second year SpR in general surgery in the West Midlands and have a particular interest in medical education & assessment. Having trained at Birmingham and completed my BST in the West Midlands, I know the area well and have been representing local trainees’ views on ASiT council with Sarah Rastall for the last couple of years. I was, however, brought up in Cardiff and my heart remains in Wales! It is an honour to be ASiT secretary, especially at this time of uncertainty in the profession. Hopefully the executive and council can continue to help to steady the ship and get the best for surgical trainees. With the great success of 2007’s conference we look to build on that and hope to see even more of our members there in 2008.
