Vice-President: Joseph Shalhoub
ASiT strives to be the independent voice of surgical trainees and those aspiring to a career in surgery. Through regional, specialty, foundation and student representation ASiT aims to identify and address the challenges presented across surgical training.
I am a surgical trainee in London with an interest in vascular surgery. I qualified from Imperial in 2004 and, after completing house officer and SHO posts in surgery, entered the post-MMC training pathway in 2007. I am currently in a period of out of program research, completing a PhD on the subject of carotid atherosclerosis, and due to return to full time training in October 2011. I am involved a number of facets of surgical training, including research, medical education and careers.
I have been an ASiT representative for my region (NW Thames) since 2007. Over this period, ASiT has grown as an organisation and I have been impressed by the rising enthusiasm for excellence in training shown by the community of surgeons in training.
