Year Book Editor: Jess Johnston

Having qualified in July 2010 from Newcastle University, I am very much one of the juniors on the ASiT Council. For me ASiTs work often feels ever more significant as I (hopefully) get closer and closer to becoming a surgical trainee. I often feel extremely fortunate to have been given the opportunity to get involved with ASiT, last year as their Medical Student Representative and this year editing their Yearbook.

I am hopeful this year’s book, like those before it, will be an excellent resource for all trainees; collating the happenings of the year into a readable document and providing up to date careers advice. It is one of many tools ASiT uses to give back to its members the support that they offer us.

At a time when surgical training appears to be approaching doom and gloom, it is a real privilege to be involved in ASiT. As an organisation it is unique in uniting the professional voice of surgical trainees and as individuals, members of the ASiT Council consistently exemplify the enthusiasm, intelligence and outright determination required to be a competent medical practitioner.

I would recommend involvement with ASiT to anyone aspiring to be a surgeon and at any stage.
