About Us
The Association of Surgeons in Training (ASiT) is a Registered Charity (No. 274841), which was established in 1976 as a forum for senior registrars to meet socially and discuss training matters.
ASiT now represents the second largest surgical specialty association in the UK, with over 2000 members, and is the fastest growing surgical specialty organisation.
ASiT’s members come from all nine surgicall specialties. ASiT is the only body in the UK to represent trainees at both BST and HST levels with orthopaedic registrars also represented by BOTA.
ASiT functions through the input of its specialty representatives and regional representatives serving the needs of trainees beyond its formal membership.
ASiT membership costs just £35. This fee has remained as low as possible whilst ASiT aims to maximise the return to its trainee members.
ASiT represents the views of its membership through representation on the councils of the Surgical Royal Colleges, JCHST, and numerous other working parties and committees.
ASiT is independent to the Surgical Royal Colleges, and is run by trainees, for trainees.
ASiT Council
The ASiT Council has evolved over years and consists of a core committee, our regional representatives and our speciality representatives.
The committee members comprise an executive committee of the President and Vice-Presidents, Secretary, Treasurer and Webmaster, as well as the members who sit on a wide variety of committees representing ASiT interests.
The regional representatives are your local contact with ASiT who will be able to assist you not only with training issues but also additional advice and support and in many cases the occasional sponsored educational / recreational meeting.
ASiT does not just represent general surgeons. ASiT represents all the main surgical specialities and it is only with collaboration and co-operation that we can further excellence in surgical training. Our speciality representatives do an invaluable job linking their sub-speciality view-point to the central hub of ASiT.
