8th May 2009

The meeting lasted from 2-4.30

Present were

Mr Campbell, Mr Gilliland, Mr Sinclair, Mr Bashi, Mr Mcallinden, Ruth Johnston, Ciara Stevenson, and Judith Currie.

Topics covered were:

(1) EWTD- basically there was a lot of talk and not much decided, in fact everyone just pointed out how they won't be compliant but that it's a trust issue and not for the school to worry about. Mr Sinclair suggested combining ortho, plastics and general at night in the ulster, It was pointed out that the workload as it stands is tough and that to manage all 3 specialties there would need to be 2 shos till midnight as a minimum.

(2) Core Training- Mr Gilliland stated that they didn't fill all places this year at core level, also that they will prob have to offer a 3rd year for ct's although it won't be recognized, it will be service! But that the impact of this is that there are few to none numbers at higher level and that they are under presure to reduce these already!

(3) Regional Teaching- there have been no replies to teaching post that has been advertised, and that this appears to have been a barrier to developing the regional teaching programme. A concept of trainees becoming more  involved in the organisation was put forward and a variety of views were expressed, and a commitment to surveying trainees to see what they wanted from regional teaching was given.
