ASiT/Covidien Laparoscopic Stapling, Suturing and Energised Dissection Course

27 March 2009

£120.00 (plus conference registration)

Closing date for applications: 15 February 2009

This skills course is aimed at trainees who have significant experience in laparoscopic appendicectomy and cholecystectomy, who wish to build upon these core skills.

Content

The faculty will comprise both upper and lower GI specialists and the day will provide an informal atmosphere in which to see and develop new skills:

  • revision of laparoscopic ergonomics
  • practice simulated dissection technique under various ergonomic conditions
  • energised dissection with advice on choosing the correct modality for specific tasks and hands-on practical experience
  • laparoscopic suturing and knot-tying using synthetic models
  • video demonstration of the use of stapling devices for laparoscopic gastrointestinal anastamoses
  • each candidate will perform a sutured and a stapled gastro-jejunostomy using an animal tissue model.

The skills required for this procedure are generic and equally applicable to trainees with upper and lower GI interests.

Application

Numbers are limited to a total of 20 delegates. The course will cover a lot of material in a short period of time and therefore places will be allocated on the basis of merit and experience.
