Membership
ASiT is the voice for U.K. Surgical Trainees
ASiT is a Registered Charity, which means we pass on our financial well-being to our members. A growing membership has allowed us to keep our annual fee to a bare minimum and increased the number and variety of benefits which we can offer to our members.
Your membership is essential in maintaining and improving our mandate:
- on every training committee both local and national
- to every S.A.C.
- in every Royal College
- on co-opted committees including EWTD, MMC, education, examinations etc.
- by increasing the number and quality of benefits that we can negotiate on your behalf
ASiT membership costs £37.50 per year (£27.50 for Medical Students) to cover administration costs, but the benefits hugely outway the small annual fee. Your subscription buys you:
- Cheaper surgical textbooks - we pass the entire publisher’s discount on to you (as much as 30%)
- Cheaper British Journal of Surgery – discounted subscription (50% Reduction) for our members
- Travelling fellowships – 2 prizes worth £2500 each year
- Free places on Laparoscopic courses in Elancourt, Paris
- Heavily subsidised, highly successful exam courses for MRCS viva and FRCS part 3 preparation
- Discounted surgical loupes
- A copy of our yearbook – mailed to your home address in January each year
- Membership of the ASiT e-group – where you can keep up with the latest in surgical training
- Access to our brand new website with downloadable image libraries and text files, news forums, helpful hints on the FRCS part 3 and consultant interviews, and details of your regional and national representatives
- Reduced rates on many National courses for ASiT members
- An invitation to our Annual Conference – a varied meeting covering academic and political issues, with poster and oral presentations and an enjoyable social programme
**Note Reduced rate of Membership for Medical Students at £27.50 per annum**

Temporary Members may be elected from among persons not otherwise eligible for ordinary membership with such rights and privileges, (other than the right to hold office and to vote) as the Council or the Executive Committee shall from time to time determine. Such temporary members shall be elected in like manner as ordinary members.
Please note that Medical Student Members will be required to verify their university, student number, and expected year of graduation.
Membership Subscriptions Increase
Please note that at the Associations Annual General Meeting held at the Wolfson Centre for Medical Education, The Medical School, University of Birmingham, on Saturday 8th March 2008, that the membership present passed a motion to increase all membership subscriptions by a figure of £2.50 per annum, effective immediately. This move was required in order to sustain the organisations running costs which are increasing in line with inflation, and which are subject to increased travel expenses. The changes will allow the organisation to continue to provide a high quality service for its members, whilst maintaining a low subscription fee compared with most other organisations.
