Paediatric Surgery is represented within ASIT and has two national trainee representatives elected by UK trainees.
Currently the national trainee representatives are Richard Lindley and Liam McCarthy. We represent UK paediatric surgery trainees on ASIT council, the British Association of Paediatric Surgeons council and subcommittees.
Key web sites for paediatric surgery trainees are:
- paediatricsurgerytrainees Yahoo! group - this is the main forum for discussion and dissemination of relevant information including forthcoming training days and important updates on our (rapidly changing) training structure. All interested trainees should subscribe to this group!
- paediatricsurgerytrainees web site - which is slower to update than the Yahoo! group but still has some useful links and information.
- British Association of Paediatric Surgeons - trainee web page is forthcoming
Further information can be found in the links below, or alternatively email Richard with any questions or queries.
Training in Paediatric Surgery
In the UK, training is carried out in “programmes” or groups of hospitals to ensure that trainees are exposed to a wide variety of cases and sub-specialities.
Currently, these are:
- Glasgow/Edinburgh/Newcastle
- Leeds/Sheffield/Nottingham/Leicester
- Liverpool/Manchester
- Birmingham/Bristol/Cardiff
- Southampton/Thames regions (London)/Oxford/Cambridge
- Belfast/Dublin
Each Programme should have a regional representative to co-ordinate local matters and provide a first point of contact for trainees. If you do not know who your representative is, then contact Richard or Liam (above).
