British Association of Day Surgery

Excellence in Short Stay Surgery

At the end of the 1970s and in the early 1980s a small number of enthusiasts began to develop and expand day surgery in their own hospitals. Indeed, a few became evangelists for this approach to treatment, travelling widely and promoting its benefits at district, regional and national meetings. From this, the British Associatino of Day Surgery (BADS) was established.

Strategic Aims of BADS

  • Maintain visibility of day surgery nationally and internationally
  • Provide education about day surgery for patients and professionals
  • Support research and quality improvement projects relating to day surgery and provide a platform for their dissemination
  • Offer specialist advice and support on topics related to day surgery
  • Ensure sustainability of the organisation through membership and accreditation
