Paediatric

Paediatric Surgery trainees have two elected national trainee representatives (Second position currently being shared by BB and JA) who contribute to several speciality bodies (British Association of Paediatric Surgeons (BAPS) executive, Paediatric Surgery Specialty Advisory Committee (SAC), RCSEd Trainee Forum).

We also form part of the ASiT council serving the interests of trainees in general as well as current and prospective trainees in paediatric surgery.

Our key online portals are in the process of an overhaul but currently comprise:

  • Paediatricsurgerytrainees Yahoo! group – Our main forum for discussion of all things paediatric surgery. It also serves as a rapid access portal and means of disseminating relevant information including forthcoming training days and important updates on our (rapidly changing) training structure. All interested trainees should subscribe to this group by contacting one of the reps

  • Trainees In Paediatric Surgery – This is updated less frequently but has useful links and notices relating to paediatric surgery training. It will be migrating in the near future to become a subsite of...

  • British Association of Paediatric Surgeons– Recently updated to better serve the needs of its members. This is the main professional association for paediatric surgeons and is highly involved with trainees and training

Further information can be found through these sites or by contacting either trainee rep.

Training in Paediatric Surgery

Due to the specialised nature of some of our work, training in the UK is carried out in training consortia (groups of training centres). This ensures that trainees are exposed to a wide variety of cases and sub-specialities.
