Learning Outcomes

1. To gain insight into a career into cardiothoracic surgery from trainees and consultants
2. Learn about the current application process and routes of entry into cardiothoracic surgery 3. Individual tailored portfolio advice
4. To gain experience in fundamental cardiothoracic surgical procedures
5. Learn how to practice skills outside the operating theatre and build your own simulator

0900 - 0930 Registration

0930 - 1000 Introduction and current Cardiothoracic Surgery application process Delegates will then rotate through four stations:

Station 1: Knot tying and how to build your knot tying jig
Station 2: Chest drain insertion
Station 3: Video assisted thoracoscopic surgery and how to train Station 4: Aortic interposition and proximal coronary anastamosis

1000 - 1115 Rotation 1
1115 - 1145 Break and question and answer session 1145 - 1300 Rotation 2

1300 - 1400 Working lunch: Career/portfolio advice- Delegates can expect individual and tailored portfolio advice and we will aim to suggest and facilitate local cardiothoracic units for taster weeks/portfolio opportunities

1400 - 1515 Rotation 3
1515 - 1600 Personalised career/portfolio advice 1600 - 1715 Rotation 4
1715 - 1730 Close and evaluation forms
