Course convenors

The GRANULE course aims to teach students how to recruit patients into randomised controlled trials. Gathering a world class faculty of international trial leaders, the course will cover principles of equipoise, communicating using trials ‘language’ and give you practical experience with simulated patients.

This interactive course will use three trials throughout the day to illustrate the concept of equipoise and to simulate discussions with patients. Delegates will be given several opportunities to practice communication with roleplayers, with senior faculty who will guide scenarios and create an immersive environment.

Learning Outcomes

  1. To develop a skill-set enabling delegates to recruit patients into randomised trials.

  1. To understand the process of obtaining informed consent for recruitment to trials.
  2. To appreciate the recruitment challenges faced by randomised trials in surgery, and their implications.
