Date and Time: 06/03/2020
Venue: ICC Birmingham
Course Convenors: Catherine Zhang and Matthew Stovell

Target audience: FY2 - ST3
This full-day pre-conference course, aligned with the ISCP curriculum, aims to equip junior trainees with introductory theoretical knowledge and practical skills, that are specific to the management of Neurosurgical patients. In particular, we try to focus on practical aspects that are difficult to gain exposure to outside neurosurgical rotations.
Topics covered include management and principles of spinal stability, traumatic brain injury, raised intracranial pressure, neuronavigation and the safe use of operative drills and craniotomies.
Whilst attention will be paid to sound theoretical principles, the course is heavily practical, and there is ample opportunity to become familiar with a diverse array of equipment used in modern neurosurgical practice.
The hope is that those who have undertaken this course will be better equipped to manage neurosurgical patients, to make most use of their time in future placements, and to provide weight to their National Selection application form.
