Please note this course cannot be booked as a standalone course. To be eligible to attend, you must register for the ASiT Annual Conference 2022.

Course Format:

Find out what it really takes to become a neurosurgeon! This course aims to provide you with an overview of the life of a neurosurgeon and information around the competitive application process and allow you to develop some hands-on practical skills including burr holes, craniotomies and laminectomies. Spaces are limited so make sure you book early to not miss out. The breadth of the speciality will be covered, with teaching sessions on cranial and spinal emergencies and the opportunity to ask the course faculty questions, and the course will conclude with a quiz on some of the topics covered.

Course Programme:

  • 08:45: Welcome and introductions
  • 09:00: The neurosurgery application process
  • 09:30: Overview of cranial emergencies
  • 10:30: Break
  • 10:45: Overview of spinal emergencies
  • 11:45: Practical Station 1 (EVD & ICP insertion/Pterional/Subtemporal/Retrosigmoid approaches)
  • 12:45: Lunch
  • 13:15: Practical Station 2
  • 14:15: Practical Station 3
  • 15:15: Practical Station 4
  • 16:15: Close
