Two-day interactive course for junior trainees (FY2 – CT2) covering essential knowledge and practical skills required for early surgical training.

The course will cover:

  • How to expertly manage a busy surgical take 
  • Professional communication
  • Safe management of critically unwell patients using simulated patient scenarios.
  • Laparoscopic skills training: Laparoscopic appendectomy and Laparoscopic perforated Duodenal ulcer models used.
  • High consultant/senior trainee faculty to delegate ratio for optimal learning.

This course is relevant to all specialties, however, examples are predominantly taken from general surgical patients.

COURSE CONTENTS

SIMULATION SESSIONS (DAY 1)

  • How to safely manage a busy surgical on-take
  • Safe management of critically unwell surgical patients
  • Professional communication

LAPAROSCOPIC SKILLS (DAY 2)

  • Key Principles
  • Laparoscopic suturing
  • Laparoscopic repair of perforated DU
  • Laparoscopic appendectomy
 

Tea, coffee and water will be provided.  You will be required to purchase your own lunch.
