This popular, one-day course will equip senior medical students and junior doctors with many of the fundamental techniques required for success the early years of surgery. Topics include sterile technique and gloving, safe surgical practice, suturing, knot-tying, applying a plaster and many more.

We will demonstrate how through this course you can begin to attain and relate the competencies that you need to progress your training in Surgery. This course is essential for trainees wishing to set themselves apart from the crowd, and will provide an ideal talking point for future selection into Surgery.

Programme

0900-0930 - Medical Records and Operative Notes
0930-0945 - Leadership, Communication and Professionalism
0945-1015 - Sutures, Drains and Instruments
1015-1030 - Coffee
1030-1300 - PRACTICAL 1 : Scrubbing for surgery, Knot tying, Suturing, Excision of skin lesion                  
1300-1345 - Lunch
1345-1615 - PRACTICAL 2 : Basic plastering, Thomas splint application, C-spine management
1615-1700 - Careers in Surgery and Surgical CV's
1700-1715 - Close and Feedback
Venue:
Lecture theater, New Lister Building, Glasgow Royal Infirmary. 
Lunch, tea, coffee and water will be provided.
