This popular, free one-day course will equip senior medical students and junior doctors with many of the fundamental techniques required for success the early years of surgery. 
 
During the day we will introduce practical skills required and further developed by the mandatory Basic Surgical Skills Course.  The course will be delivered by surgical trainees with interest in teaching.
 
This course is essential for trainees wishing to set themselves apart from the crowd, and will provide evidence of commitment to surgery for your Core Surgical Training portfolio.

08.30 – 09.00 – Registration, Introductions and Housekeeping
09.00 – 10.30– Practical 1: Suturing Techniques (interrupted, subcutaneous, mattress and hand ties) (Suturing Rigs)
10.30 – 10.45 - Coffee
10.45 – 12.30 - Practical 2: Excision of skin lesion and suturing techniques (Porcine model)
12.30 – 13.00 - Practical 3: Practical Skills – I&D (Porcine Model)
13.00 – 13.45 – Lunch (Not provided)
13.45 – 14.00 - Demonstration: Bowel Resection and Anastomosis (Porcine Model)
14.00 – 15.45 – Practical 4: Bowel Resection and Anastomosis (Porcine Model)
15.45 – 17.00 - Practical 5: Simulated Laparoscopic Surgical Skills (Laparoscopic Trainers)
15.45 – 17.00 – Revision Session: Further supervised practice
17.00 – 17.15 – Close and Feedback - Certificates
