18th Basic Biomechanics in Orthopaedics (BBiOrth) course

We are pleased to announce the date for the 18th Basic Biomechanics in Orthopaedics (BBiOrth) course, which shall be taking place on Saturday 7 December 2019 and held in London, The Royal Society of Medicine, 1 Wimpole Street. W1G 0AE

Basic Biomechanics in Orthopaedics (BBiOrth) is a one-day course held at The Royal Society of Medicine, London. The course was established in 2011 to address the fact that there is very little formal teaching at the undergraduate and post-graduate levels on this subject, which is an integral part of the orthopaedic practice. These principles are often first encountered on the job (trauma meetings!) and can be quite difficult and time consuming to grasp.

The aim of the course is to introduce and explain core biomechanical principles in orthopaedics. The material is covered by a range of speakers, who are keen to relate the theory to surgical examples. The faculty includes orthopaedic registrars and consultants as well as a radiology registrar. Many of the faculty members have a higher postgraduate degree in addition to the surgical diplomas.

The course is delivered over one day with a mixture of lectures and small group break out sessions. The participants are divided according to their level of training. After attending the course, the participants should feel more confident about their understanding of the loads encountered in the different parts of the musculokeletal system and how the commonly used orthopaedic implants 'work'.
It is aimed at junior doctors and junior registrars, who would like to increase their understanding of Orthopaedics. The participants will learn about the key biomechanical principles that must be considered in making Orthopaedic decisions. This understanding will help to make the clinical practice in Orthopaedics more rewarding, and stimulate further enthusiasm for the specialty. The course is well established now and has been very well received by the FYs and CTs/STs alike.

Course fee is £199 - all doctors.

Delegates get FREE course book: Orthopaedic Biomechanics Made Easy, published by Cambridge University Press (RRP £37.99). If two people attend the course together on the same day, both can receive a further
£15 discount each.
