ASiT Foundation Skills in Surgery Course

This popular, one-day course will equip senior medical students and junior doctors with many of the fundamental techniques required for success the early years of surgery. Topics include sterile technique and gloving, safe surgical practice, suturing, knot-tying, applying a plaster and many more.

We will demonstrate how through this course you can begin to attain and relate the competencies that you need to progress your training in Surgery. This course is essential for trainees wishing to set themselves apart from the crowd, and will provide an ideal talking point for future selection into Surgery.

08:30 - 08:45    Introduction and plan of the day
08:45 - 10:00    Practical workshop 1 (Suturing rigs) - Basic knot tying and suturing
10:00 - 10:15    Coffee/tea break
10:15 - 11:30    Practical workshop 2 GROUP A (10 delegates) -  Incision and drainage
11:30 - 12:45    Practical Workshop 3 GROUP B (10 delegates) - Excision of skin lesion
13:00 - 13:45    LUNCH (not provided)
13:45 - 15:30    Lectures, CV and Portfolio preparation, Career advice
15:30 - 15:45    Coffee/tea break
15:45 - 17:00    Practical Workshop 4 (all delegates)- Laparoscopic skills
