Fifth Upper GI & Bariatric Course

An invite has been extended to ASiT members to the Upper GI & Bariatric Course at the Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust on the 25-26 Jun 2017. All surgical trainees, gastroenterology and medical diabetes and endocrinology trainees are welcome. This course is ideal for surgical trainees (ST5 – ST8) in General/Upper GI surgery and trainees planning to sit the FRCS exit exam in the near future. 

The event is held over two days, with a dinner lecture series on bariatric and cancer topics on the night of Sunday, 25th June 2017 and discussion on benign topics and a live operating session on Monday, 26th June 2017.  The topics for discussion include

  • Sleeve gastrectomy in the context of Barrett’s oesophagus
  • Technical tips for Minimally Invasive Oesophagectomy
  • Revisional bariatric surgery: Tips and tricks
  • Management of difficult oesophageal leak
  • Perioperative management of Oesophagectomy

The course registration fee for ASiT members is £30 (usually £60) and includes:

  • The course lectures
  • Dinner meeting
  • Accommodation
  • Reserved parking area for attendees
  • Transport between the course dinner venue and Heartlands Hospital
  • all the live operating sessions at the Heartlands site
  • hot lunch and coffee/tea during breaks.
