Hull Foundation Surgical Skills Course

The Suture Centre - Castle Hill Hospital
Join us for a one-day course covering foundation level surgical skills held at the Suture Centre at Castle Hill Hospital! The day will comprise of an introduction to core surgical skills including suturing, hand tying, consenting patients, removing skin lesions and abscesses and more.
We will demonstrate how through this course you can begin to attain and relate the competencies that you need to progress your training in Surgery. This course is essential for trainees wishing to set themselves apart from the crowd, and will provide an ideal talking point for future selection into surgery.

Programme
08:30 – 09:00: Registration & welcome
09:00 – 09:15: Theatre etiquette
09:15 – 09:45: Scrubbing and Gowning
09:45 – 11:00: Hand Ties/Tying at Depth/Basic Suturing
11:00 – 11:15: Coffee Break
11:30 – 12:00: Basic Suturing (animal models)- simple interrupted, mattress (horizontal and vertical), continuous, subcuticular, Aberdeen knots, drain stitches
13:00 – 14:00: Lunch break
14:00 – 15:00: Skill station 1
15:00 – 15:15: Coffee Break
15:15 – 16:15: Skill station 2
16:15 – 16:30: Feedback & Closing remarks
