ASIT COUNCIL VaCANCIES - INNOVATION and ROBOTICS LEADs

ASiT is delighted to announce applications are now open for two vacancies on its council (Robotics Lead and Innovation Lead).

 

Dear ASiT Members,

The Association of Surgeons in Training Council is an independent professional body consisting of a diverse group of surgical trainees aiming to promote the highest standards of surgical training through pan-speciality and pan-grade national representation. ASiT works for the benefit of all trainees and patients irrespective of race, gender, sexual orientation or disability.

We are very excited to open applications for the following two roles:

  • ASiT Robotics Lead
  • ASiT Innovation Lead

ASiT Robotics Lead

Role Responsibilities

The role of robotics in surgery is now well established. As the largest organisation representing surgical trainees, ASiT must encourage, support and recognise the role of robotics in surgical training and, as always, provide leadership for the benefit of both patients and trainees. To achieve this, we are introducing a dedicated ASiT Robotics Lead. 

The successful applicant is expected to meet the roles and responsibilities of all council members. In addition, the robotics lead will function as a resource for trainees interested in this sphere and represent robotics trainees in a number of key meetings as outlined in the following duties:

  • Sit on the ASiT/RADAR Robotics and Digital Surgery Committee
  • Collaborate with the Robotics Representatives of the Trainee Speciality Associations
  • Compile a database of any existing, and champion the development of, new robotics training fellowships and opportunities.
  • Liaise with industry for training opportunities and work with the Honorary Secretary team to access new sponsorship streams
  • Run the annual ASiT Robotics Training Course 
  • Support the Innovation Representative in producing The National ASiT Innovation event

Role Term: March 2022 – March 2023

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must be passionate about robotics in surgery and possess the requisite knowledge, skills and attributes to perform the role as outlined above. They should:

  • Be an ASiT member
  • Demonstrate an interest and exposure to early robotics training and or simulation
  • Demonstrate an ability to work well within a team
  • Demonstrate effective planning, time management and organisational skills
  • Demonstrate the ambition to develop strong relationships with industry partners and other stakeholders

ASiT Innovation Lead

Role Responsibilities

Over the next 20 years, new technologies and equipment will continue to transform how surgeons train and practice. As the largest organisation representing surgical trainees, ASiT must encourage, support, and recognise innovation among surgical trainees and, as always, provide leadership for the benefit of both patients and trainees. To continue this effort, we are delighted to welcome applications for the position of  ASiT Innovation Lead. 

The successful applicant is expected to meet the role responsibilities of all council members. In addition, the Innovation Lead will function as a resource for trainees interested in this sphere and fulfil the following duties:

  • Organise and deliver, with the support of the President, Executive and Council a national Innovation event - The ASiT Innovation Summit
  • Liaise with RCS England Future of Surgery
  • Liaise with other trainee organisations (ATDG/AoMRC,) and other groups (eg NHSX) to identify opportunities for collaboration
  • Liaise with industry for training opportunities and work with the honorary secretary team to access new sponsorship streams
  • Run an educational innovation/entrepreneurship training/networking events for trainees involved and interested in this sphere

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must be passionate about innovation and possess the requisite knowledge, skills and attributes to perform the role as outlined above. They should be an ASiT member and  demonstrate:

  • A successful track record of engaging with and contributing positively to innovation projects
  • Effective planning, time management and organisational skills
  • The ability to develop strong relationships with industry partners and other stakeholders
