ASiT recognises the effect of the pandemic on face-to-face conferences, with many educational events worldwide being cancelled or held via a virtual platform as guidance on social distancing measures is regularly updated.

In light of the significant travel disruptions and uncertainties in conditions over the coming months, it was decided, after much deliberation, to cancel this year's traveling bursaries and withhold regional grant applications for face-to-face meetings at present. We'd like to assure our members this was not a decision we've taken lightly and that we will continue to regularly follow updates on government guidance and reassess our stances accordingly.

We are, however, delighted to offer our members the opportunity to apply for our virtual event bursaries. These bursaries will go towards event registration fees to support successful applicants in attending virtual educational events or conferences.

Each bursary will be worth up to £150 and can be used for any virtual event in surgery of significant educational value in the UK or abroad that has a registration fee of £150 or more
Up to 5 bursaries in total will be awarded in this round after applications are marked based on merit. Successful applicants will be notified in due course and can claim the bursary amount of £150 after providing proof of meeting attendance. They will be required to write a brief report for the ASiT Yearbook published after the annual conference (to be submitted within a month of the event).

Elgibility:

  • You need to be an ASiT member to apply

  • All member career grades will be considered

  • All applications will be be considered as long as they are submitted before the submission deadline. Owing to the unpredictability of event formats in light of the pandemic, applications will be marked and successful applicants notified as soon as possible, but we cannot guarantee this happens before the event date. The bursary amount can then be claimed in retrospect after attending the event.

Applying:

Applications should be emailed to info@asit.org with the subject "ASiT Virtual Event Bursary Application" and should include:

1. A summary outlining the virtual event details and educational value to the applicant (400 words maximum) - please include your ASiT membership number

2. Proof of payment of event registration fees (and confirmation of a place booked for delegate if applicable)

3. A 1-page summary of your CV
