RCS One-Year Surgical Research Fellowship

Would you like to spend one-year training in research? Subscribing trainee members of the College in a training post, or trainees who have passed the MCQ papers and will sit the final MRCS examination at this College, are eligible to apply. The research must be undertaken in the UK. The fellowships cover salary, on-costs and some running expenses. Applicants may study any aspect of surgery or surgical care including basic science, diagnosis, treatment, surgical technology, logistics or audit. The main criteria for those interested in applying are to delineate important research questions, with an appropriate study design, which can be completed within the year of the fellowship. The research can also be self-contained or part of a wider research programme.

The supervisor plays a key role in helping with the writing and structure of the application, as well as offering support during the research year. All applications are rigorously assessed by a panel of experts to ensure that the research, surgeon, supervisor and facilities are of a high standard, and that the proposed work will be valid, beneficial and original.

At the end of each period of research, the fellow is asked to submit an evaluation and a report along with details of publications and presentations.

PLEASE ALSO NOTE: POSTER VIVA DAY - GERMANY 2020 - To those of you applying - the process will be that your full application must be submitted by no later than 28 November 2019 (14:00).  These will then be assessed and in early March 2020 about 45 applicants will be shortlisted and invited to produce a poster at a viva over the 14 and 16 May 2020 in Germany at the BBraun HQ. So please ensure before submitting an application that you are free to come to Germany over those dates.  The logistics, travel and accommodation arrangements will be finalised later in the year.
