Mentorship has a valuable pastoral role to play in enabling trainees to achieve their maximum potential, whilst developing leadership and interpersonal skills.
The ASiT Mentoring Scheme aims to provide surgical trainees and those interested in a surgical career with a formal mentor, separate from the clinical environment. The scheme has been started after the results of a national survey of ASiT members from all surgical specialities suggested that there was a great desire for surgical mentors and for training in mentoring others.

If you would like to train as a mentor, we run training courses to expand our number of trained mentors. This involves a 3 day training course and 3 further feedback/ training days, where mentors are able to discuss problems/ concerns, as well as have further training in mentoring techniques (see above for details on current course).
At the end of the course you will receive a certificate confirming that you have successfully completed the ASiT mentor training course and you will then join the register of trained ASiT mentors.
Those interested must commit to the first 3 days of the course and at least one of the 3 feedback coaching Masterclasses.
The cost of the training will be £150 in total, this is to cover the cost of the professional coach. Please note that mentoring training can cost more than £1000 and this is heavily subsidised, we continue to look for external funding to enable us to reduce the cost of this course further. If anyone has any suggestions please do contact us.
If you are a surgical trainee (from medical student to registrar), we have a cohort of trained mentors to help you reach your maximum potential. If you would like a surgical mentor, please email email@example.com for an application form
The Asit mentoring scheme continues to grow from strength to strength and we want as many of you as possible to experience the benefits of mentoring and the ASiT scheme.
